Anyone here ran Frogtown Creek with Cannon Falls in North Ga? Been raining here pretty hard for over a day, and the Chestatee is currently at 1610 cfs and rising.
I don't live in Blue Ridge, but maybe an hour or so south in Gainesville. Around me you have the Amicalola, Cartecay, Etowah, Chattahoochee, Chestatee, and Chattooga.
I've used it for repairing cracks in my ABS canoe. It's good stuff, but I really haven't used anything else, so I can't really compare it to anything. I just read about it from a lot of other boaters online saying it was some of the best stuff you could buy.
I don't really know. I was hoping before the summer is out (I've never paddled in the cold, and I like hunting/football in the fall). But I don't know if I'll go at all this year now.
I can see what you mean about the Jefe being hard to hold a line, but it is the only sit in kayak I've paddled. I'm also a bigger guy (250 lbs) and I wanted that extra volume. I just caught a great deal on it on Cragslist. I bought it after the previous owner used it about 3 times and an AT paddle for $600. If I was to get another kayak, I'd look into a Stomper or a Karma.
Amicalola doesn't have nowhere near the volume of a Nantahala or Ocoee, but it has a nice Class IV rapid in Edge of the World.
Ran Section III again this weekend, Earl's to Bull. Ran the Sluice twice and turned over both times. I guess I still need to get my combat roll down. I guess I might be saving the Ocoee for next summer.
Thanks for the advice guys. I'd like to hit Chattooga Section 3 a few more times. French Broad, Nolichucky, and Pigeon look like other rivers I can work on. But like I said before if or when I do Ocoee, I'll probably raft it with my friend that is a guide first, then take my kayak down.
I also posted this to MountainBuzz, so some of you may have seen this before:
Hey guys, new user year. I'm in my 2nd year of paddling my Jefe Grande, and I paddled a Dagger Caper canoe for 2 years before that.
In my Jefe, I mostly do runs around North Ga, where I live: Hooch, Etowah, Amicalola, Chestatee, Cartecay. I recently ran Section III of the Chattooga for this first time, had a blast.
I want to step up to something like the Ocoee and was just checking in to see how big of a shellshock something like that would be. I have a friend that is raft guiding on the Ocoee this summer (but he has never paddled anything else before, so he really can't compare it to me). I was thinking about taking a weekend trip up there with my kayak, rafting it first, and then taking my kayak down.
Or should I try to step up to something like the Nantahala (rafted it several times, but never kayaked it, damn it's cold) first? Or do yall have any other good river recommendations in the North Ga, Tenn, NC area?
