Hit some power lines and took out 2 light polls. One light poll that came down (part way) had two ENO hammocks attached to it, the other ends were hooked to a Jeep Wrangler. The hammock sleepers were tossed out but surprisingly enough, the Jeep and the hammocks held the poll up at a 45 degree angle and possibly saved some campers. When those polls came down, it laid live power lines across the row of cars on the lake side. It was resting on the kayak on top of my car. At any rate, Duke Energy showed up to remove the power lines and some volunteer firefighters removed the tree because it blocked in a bunch of people who were camped back near the trailer boat launch.

Why would I buy a brand new boat when I can buy a Big EZ that has solid plastic and will last for years?

There are other towers if you have fixed mount points or the factory crossbars

But I use the crossroad 450 towers on my 2016 forester. I bought them before Thule technically supported the 2016 model but now it appears they officially support it. So, yeah, the 450R is what you need. Sorry i can't help on the aeroblade length question

I have a powerhouse after switching from a sherpa and I've been having some arm and joint issues. Most notably, some tendonitis in my left elbow. I wonder if I should switch back to a smaller blade, I didn't have any problems when using the Sherpa

Just don't call it Wilson's

I feel like the 95 squirrel is too big on me. I bought it when I was more like 215 lbs and it felt much better.

It felt more like 5-6" though and everyone I talked to on the river agreed it felt at least 2" higher

Check out this video of a nasty pin in Go Left during the Green Race!

When someone gets pinned, or carnage, I like to see the outcome. But, most importantly, let us download it from vimeo.

If I am dealing with a sketching connection, it is nice to download and watch on vlc. Also, a players like vlc lets you step through the frames, which is a great way to analyse what went right and what went wrong. On drops like "go left" it is such a fine line for set up and execution, every frame has a clue.

All the paddlers, whether they had an issue or cleaned it, are bad asses!

If you are on Facebook, the Green Narrows page might be a good resource to get someone looking into it quicker.

Our 8yr old son Malcolm Smith races off road motor cycles at a fairly high level. The races we go to have 4 times the amount of people camping at night as Gauley Fest. He also is a fair kayaker for his age. He is on Team Dagger, he ran the Lower Gauley 2 times over Gauley Fest weekend.
The sad thing is how much more raunchy and crazed the kayak community is than the off road racing community is at nights during their events. This behavior is nothing to be proud of.

Gauley Fest crowds have already begun pouring in and today's parking situation proved it! Saturday and Sunday should be even more crowded. At the Dam, NPS expects to have to control morning traffic influx before noon once the available space disappears. We expect both Masons Branch and Woods Ferry to fill to overflowing and encourage people to park in the AWA field to take the traffic pressure off of both launches. Boaters in town for the weekend should expect congestion at all the public launches. We'll not be doing any more traffic control than is necessary to allow people to find parking for the day and to pick up and drop off people and gear at the launches. If your vehicle is in the way for emergency access, we will have it towed. Please use common sense and courtesy around the access points. Thank ya'll for your support and cooperation and have a great weekend!!

Thule never made a rack for the 2015 Outback and it took Yakima many months to come out with one. I don't know if they've changed the side bars again in 2016, but if they did, you may have trouble finding a rack for a while. Just something to keep in mind...

The Thule towers that strap on to the factory side bars are high enough to keep boats well above the fin.

I've gone probably 13 out of the past 15 years, and used to have a great time at it, but it has been ridiculous the past 3 to 4 years. There is zero chance I would take my family (especially young children) to it. I have no problem with beer being served, I'm certainly not a prude about that, but the drunken idiocy of some of the attendees is off the charts.

For some reason a huge segment of the whitewater community thinks Gauley Fest is simply a "get wasted and roll in the mud" event.... much like a Phish concert. Those same jackasses are the ones who spend ZERO dollars (besides the admission fee, and alot sneak in without even paying that) at the festival and do not support the vendors at all. It's these shitbags that ruin it for everyone who wants to attend, buy gear, bring their families, meet international outfitters, and see the new products being developed for the sport. I personally don't want to walk around the event with my family dodging groups of drunken idiots in flat bill baseball caps and stupid looking hoodies who are acting like surfers from a bad 1980's movie....

If AW were smart, and that is questionable at times even though I agree with the majority of their actions, they would clean up the event and get the vendors back in force. Stop letting it be a dirt bag, drunken festival and make it a WHITEWATER event. Word of advice for AW- the non paying dirt bags don't stroke $1000 checks for lifetime AW memberships, but the Weekend Warrior family types with jobs and a love for the sport of kayaking do... and a whole lot of those folks (whom I know) are pretty fed up with the Festival.

Fire away, the floor is open for discussion. I can take the criticism or rebuttals, so flame on.
