depends on your tolerance for noise and how much you plan to party. thunder rock and greasy creek are quiet and strict. AU, OAR etc are more liberal on the noise. closest to middle is Thunder Rock

BoaterTalk Forester
4-cylinder Subaru Forester handles Pennsylvania and West Virginia just fine with a rack full of boats on the roof and a pop-up camper on the trailer hitch. Look at torque (and to a lesser extent horsepower) specs and forget about counting cylinders. V-6s and -8s had some advantages in smoothness back in the days when the engineers hadn't figured out how to dampen vibration very well yet. Now it's mostly marketing. If you have the torque and horsepower it's irrelevant how many cylinders you get it out of. V-8s in particular tend to be larger engines, with more output, but more isn't better once you have enough. More just costs you more, both to buy it and to feed it.

All prior cars I have owned that have carried kayaks and hang gliders were either V6 or V8. Now time to by the kid a car who paddles and flys. Looking at 4 cylinder as an option. Those of you with a 4C, how does it handle the real mountain roads loaded with boats on top

I did not know it was possible but the 27th Annual Coosa River Whitewater Festival is giving away multiple boats. We will have more sponsors this year which means more prizes and more free stuff. Last year we raffled off or gave away two kayaks, hang gliding lessons, 1200.00 in chacos, life jackets, paddles, dry bags, shorts, shirts, hats, aluminum water bottles, plastic water bottles and a lot more. Remember to register early to get the best goodie bags. They are filled in the order of registration. The first 150 people to register last year had goodie bags valued at approximately $80.00. register on line at www.coosariverwhitewaterfestival.com Just by registering and being present you are automatically in some of the drawings. We feed you Saturday night. Free camping too. $30.00 and you are in.

We have an event just for the sit on top kayaks and sup's.
If you have kids, bring them because we have games for them off the river.

The big air ramp is back but it is a lot lower to the water with a longer ramp and kicker on the bottom. We will be feeding you again this year on saturday night with a band for entertainment. Friday night entertainment is acoustical or bring your on guitar and hop on up.
We have added a few more events for the Sit on Top Kayaks/Canoes and Stand Up Paddle Boards.
Kayak competition will be on both sides of the Gap. King of the Wave is back. Your one registration ($30.00) gets you into every event if you want to compete, t shirt, goodie bag, entered into door prize drawings, shuttle, camping, parties, bands, showers, free food and drinks. The only thing that is not included is your meal at the gap which is $5.00. The $5.00 goes to a boy scout group. This event is for beginner sit on top kayakers to professionals.
