BoaterTalk Squirrel V. Remix
Im looking to get a new boat...I want this boat to be an all round good boat. Im a solid class IV-V paddler looking to step up to the big 3 this year. Id be looking at a Remix 79 or a Flying Squirrel 85? what are the main differences between the two? what are your thoughts?

hey guys! I'm thinking about guiding this summer at the whitewater center, the only problem is i have no where to live in NC...I have heard rumors about there being a place in the center island that you can camp on. Im sure I'm not the first person with this problem, any places around the center where you can rent cheep?

for levels call GA power at 7063176000
and basically for park and play go to the wave shaper! you can park right next to and walk out to the island which will put you on right above the wave shaper. there is a really good hole above the wave shaper but you need a fast roll as the wave shaper sucks to ride upside down. And there is a wave right after wave shaper and before the rapid "good wave after wave shaper" which is a lot of fun but the eddies next to it are really pushy at higher levels. and then good wave below the wave shaper is fun too! at lower levels its a good river wide hole but it is shallow so it makes looping difficult at lower levels but at higher levels it turns into like a 8 ft tall wave and is so much fun!!!!!

http://vimeo.com/112596477 this is a POV view from Todd Wells and it gives you an unbelievably close view of the new LL boat...from the looks its like a shrunken stinger and looks to be right at 9 feet. Maybe LL's answer to the 9R, but to me it looks a lot like the RPM...Pat's favorite boat. It seems like it is longer with more bow rocker! regardless I am so stoked!

You'll fit in any long boat, don't worry about sizing because long boats only come in 1 size, BIG and LONG. but definitely demo demo demo!!!! I had the opportunity to try the stinger and the green boat...the stinger is ALOT longer and therefore is faster but it didn't resurface like the green boat did...also i didn't like the low volume in the stern but the green boat resurfaces pretty predicable but the green boat has a lot of stern rocker as well as volume so you get shot upward after going off a drop losing your speed. but unlike the stinger the green boat carves lift up and edge and you will turn where as with the stinger you have to paddle to turn it...to me the green boat felt better...im about you same size a little heaver but the green boat, once dialed in, fits like a charm and is so comfy but the stinger is too. I actually be interested in the new Jackson Karma UL...its got the volume of the green boat but it has the low stern rocker like the stinger so you don't lose your speed. but definatley demo as much as you can!!!

A person from my group was the one who swam on saturday...he was shaken up from carping his role at the end of gauntlet he was on the far right side of gauntlet and just missed the terminal hole on river right at the bottom of bridal veil....he swam bridal veil and the hole at the bottom held him under for about 18 seconds he came up dazed and confused...wasnt responding very well once i pulled him out on to shore. a very very near drowning, As a WEMT i can say if he was under for 3 or so more seconds he would have come out unconscious. Regardless don't fuck up at gauntlet. Even on saturday the hole at the bottom of bridal veil is big and very very sticky. If it was sunday and that situation happened the out come would have been much much worse. Once the boater was stabilized he hiked out with the other boater who pitoned.

Columbus is a great place with lots of shit for everyone. It releases everyday and is able to be accessed everyday which is awesome! basically the levels are low in the morning but still runnable and then the water slowly but surely gets higher as the day progresses. Its a 2-2.5 mile long run with some epic rapids. cut bait is one of the last rapids and once you get to the top of cut bait there are 2 big channels, the right channel is cut bait which at lower levels is super fun and gets to be super rowdy at high water. and the left channel is to a rapid called wave shaper...its a great rapid with a big hole after the first drop, at lower levels is really do able but once the levels start to rise the hole obviously gets bigger and if you are in a play boat it will flip you over like bow over stern flip. but the last 2 rapids wave shaper and good wave below wave shaper are super awesome. A great park and play. and with the different levels you get a little bit of everything. at lower levels "good wave below wave shaper" is an awesome hole that is loopable and at higher levels it turns into a pretty monster wave. at a full release the wave can get to be at least 8ish feet tall. I have spent 8 hour days at the last 2 waves just play boating and running the rapids. cut bait and wave shaper run parallel to each other you can chose what rapid you go down. All in all it is an amazing place to practice and to get better at!

BoaterTalk Green parking
is it true that if you don't park inside the green key lot you will be towed? I had a buddy of mine tell me that today, and I have always parked outside of the green key lot with others and i have never had any problems. and if parking is a problem outside the green key lot, how can i get a green key?
