A zero degree paddle may be easier to transition to initially as opposed to directly moving to a left handed control. Although both require focusing on each stroke by sight and resisting the urge to place the stroke in the water by "feeling". I occasionally rotate the degrees and control hand of the paddles I use and if I don't pay attention I inadvertently have missed some strokes.
Once I begging to paddle with a different blade on flat water for a few hours I can start to get the grasp of it before transition to current. Have you tried any weight lifting specific gloves that have tensions on certain digits? Which digits were injured?
