doh That was scary! My father had a similar experience with a body net on the Kern.
My Dad was paddling the Kern back in the 80's and they had had a lot of rain and lost a couple of people on the river. So the geniuses with whatever organization was responsible for the river at the time decided to string a body net across the river to recover the individuals who were lost. Unfortunately, the line on the top of the net was a nice rust-colored cable hanging about 2-3 inches above the water line, meaning you couldn't see it at all. He ended up against the net and started to get pushed under against it. Luckily he was able to claw his way to the other side of the net and then his friends got to the downstream side and helped pull his boat over. Strainers are some scary shit.
