Hey Rob,

I kept notes for a few years every time I got back from a surf trip (both kayak and longboard).  Here are some from the good days at Westport:

2/8 Jetty – W 270-277 4-6 foot swell 12-14 seconds, NE Winds 5-15 knots one hour before low tide to one hour after (approx. 2-4 ft)  - ROCKIN!!!! Head high swells a few hundred yards out, clean, fast and perfect for the Cyclone.  Was out with Ken and Ellen D. and Chuck in their surf boats.

3/8 265-270 degree 5.5 foot swell, 6-8 seconds, winds south in the morning 5-10 mph changing to east 10-20mph, tide 1.7 – 3 feet – out in the Cyclone - very nice rides (a few fast enough to get the boat skipping on the water) on the outside, trash on the inside, fairly easy to get out once past the junk in the middle, nice A frames – better rights than lefts which tended to get pretty steep right after take off.  Similar in a lot of ways to 2/8.

5/25 257-260 degrees 6-7 foot swell 8-14 seconds.  W winds 0-5 mph.  Tide 3.2-1.2.  Got some pretty sweet rides on the outside in the Cyclone.  I was the only one out on the outer break.  The inside was VERY confused, a lot of guys were trying to board surf but not much luck.

11/9/03 270 degrees, 3-3.3 foot swell 8-12 seconds, tide 6.5-9.3, winds NE 5-10.  Very fun day. Easy paddle outs on the longboard, mostly waist high with a few shoulder high sets.  Had a great wipe out on a shoulder high wave – pearled and took a header off the nose. Fairly long rides, got in a few turns and an occasional right.  Got very tired and cold though after about 1.5 hours. MUST paddle a couple of times during the week.

11/11/04  273-278, 3.5-4 foot swell, winds ENE 5-15 mph, tide 10-9 feet.  Good day, easy paddle outs, waist - shoulder high rides.  E wind held up the waves and blew me off a few rides as well as blowing off my board a few times as I was turning to catch a ride.

11/21/04 280-287, 5 foot swell, winds e-se 5-10, tide 6-5ft. Nice shoulder-head high waves, but ridiculous paddle out.  By the time I got to the outside I only had enough energy to catch two waves before calling it good.  Nice and glassy though and fun. Would have been sweet in a surf boat.

1/2/05 295-302 4.5-5 foot swell, winds e-ne 5 10, tide 4-5 ft. Nice waist to shoulder high rides, especially close to the Jetty.  Mostly rights, one little left.   Easy paddle out, but sooo cold – probably around 40 degrees

5/5/05 217-220 3.1 foot swell, winds NE 5, tide 3-6 ft.  Put the Intruder through its paces finally.  The morning swell was not so hot, but by about 9 am was getting some decent waist high rides where I could do some cutbacks. Got one good floater and a few second forms.  Feet still a little bit of an issue in the Intruder and it’s not quite as stable as the Cyclone was, so doesn’t give quite as much confidence, but much more maneuverable and fun once on the face. Took a few beatings, so don’t quite know what to expect in larger surf yet.

6/04/05 276 degree, 2.4 foot swell, 4-6 seconds tide 2-4 foot tide, 10 mph west wind. Very small surf (knee high) got some fun but slow rides in the Intruder (had the Boogie out a few years back in similar conditions, the Intruder definitely pulled off the small stuff better) – the fins really do a nice job of holding on the face, but make side surfing a challenge.  Sunny nice day (even though forecast called for rain).

7/31/05 260-270 3.5-4.3 foot swell, 6-8 seconds, winds NW 5-15, tide, 5-6 foot tide then outgoing to about 4.5 or so.  Beautiful chest to shoulder high (an occasional head high sets) rights and lefts. Probably some of the best surf I’ve had at the Jetty, just at the right size to be pushed a little. Fairly easy paddle outs and consistent take off spots.
