I use a 3 ml Farmer John, surf booties, fleece stretch shirt and drytop and am plenty warm, even on the coldest days.  I'll sometimes throw a  warmer under my helmet.

The drive is definitely a drag, but the good days are really good. Very small "crowds" (especially compared to Cali) and out on the Strait you can look up at the snow covered Olympic Peaks as you're riding a wave in and Vancouver Island, Orcas and bald eagles as you're paddling back out. Westport is another story, but some great waves can definitely be had there.

Plus the whitewater kayaking, skiing/snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking are all outstanding as well.
