Last year we had beautiful weather, but tiny waves, and everyone had a ball, this year, we're doin it again (except for the

whole wave thing; I'll be doin my Hawiian wave dance to ensure good surf!) For anyone unfamiliar with the break at shell Island,

it's a fairly longboardy(ish) wave most of the time, but can be steep in the right conditions.  I chose this venue as it is out

of the main WB tourist area so as to minimize swimmers in the contest zone, and given poor conditions, it's the break of choice.

The Event permit is for the beach only, not the ocean.  I can ask swimmers and other surfers to not enter the scoring zone, but

will have no authority to enforce it.  Please don't hit the tourists.  A craft only shuttle will be available to anyone not

wishing to carry their boat the 1/4 mile or so from the nearest beach access to the contest area.  Our ESA judges are very

experienced, their decisions are final (staying in the pocket, full use of the wave,  and air are highly rewarded).
Contest fee is $30 per contestant, and $10 for each additional category.
Make check or money order payable to Gordon Rock.  982 Hoover rd.  Hampstead, NC 2843. Competitors are encouraged, but not

required to attend the competitors meeting on September 14 at Flamin amy's Burrito Barn in wilmington, NC. at the intersection

of 41st and Market 7:00 P.M.
Surf conditions are a factor outside of anyone's control.  Waves must have a face of at least 18" to be contestable.  At the

other end of the spectrum, If conditions are are such that it would be a danger to participants greater than normal surfing

hazards, the contest may be cancelled at the discression of the organizer.  Should the event be cancelled on contest day,

participants will receive  a refund on their entry fee minus $10 for administration.
Further questions should be directed to Gordon Rock at 910-228-7625
