question Foot brace kits for IK's? New

Does anyone have any advice on installing foot brace kits in an IK? Does it help with boat control? Does it adversely affect the durability of the boat where you punch through the outer shell? Are they really hard to install? I have an Aire Lynx II and currently use thigh straps, which help greatly, but I've always wondered if the footbraces are worth considering.
