note Sac-religious to place items on the floor of a raft??? New

I've always been told that loading cargo in the floor of a self-bailer raft is a big no-no. How extreme is this rule? Obviouly you don't want to place your 100 pound cooler on the floor...but what about a 25 pound plastic cargo box stacked on top of some drybags and a few fold-up chairs in the back of the raft??  Or would it be better to store them somewhere else?
Obviously the idea is...if you run over a rock..there will be some flexibility in the floor thus  best to keep gear elevated. But there has got to be a happy medium somewhere.
Hey...what about rafts with built in floors for the rower?....what happens when those slide over a rock??
Any exeperience on this subject would be greatly appreciated....my head is beginning to spin again!! LOL
