Yes, my opinion is from someone that is overly safe. I don't see any reason to skimp on $100-$150 for my life. I suppose that sounds harsh, but it's just not worth it to me to question. I use my old PFD's for non-whitewater activities. The big variable is what is going to happen in whitewater, not a calm, safe buoyancy test. Seemingly find PFD's have been shredded in swims in the grand.
