I have the old americas cup pfd (circa 1990, like the extrasport hi float-B27). It has thousands of river miles and it tested in a dunk take within a half pound of the original in 2006. I believe if you take good care of your pfd's they will take care of you. sun and compression are the big enemy's. use a good UV inhibitor. I also
have some old safe-guards that have held up well. I only trash my pfd's when the fabric becomes thin and sun
damaged and/or they no longer pass the buoyancy test. The previous poster may not agree, but I will float any
rapid in my loaner jackets. preferably not by choice. just my 2 cents.. |
