If you are looking for a boat for your wife, a hardshell kayaker, then my recommendation is to find a used or demo Force XL. It's wide enough to be more stable than a hardshell and still performs very well. It's become one of my favorite boats.

If you are looking for a loaner that is fairly inexpensive, the only economy boat that I could recommend it the Aire Tomcat. It is basically an old style Lynx with economy material and made in China. It doesn't blow up as stiff as the Lynx and doesn't drain quite as well, but it ain't a bad boat for the money.
