note has anyone successfully canned green tomatoes?? New

i'm wondering what i did wrong.
here's the steps i used:
sterilized cans.
added green tomatoes, dill, garlic, onions, etc, spices,etc.
poured in a boiling mix of water, vinegar and salt, leaving about 2 inch gap of air.
put on the lid.
boiled the cans in a big pot for 10 minutes.
placed in cool place.

its been about 12 days .... a lot of the tomatos shriveld up and the brine is a bit brown. all the cans are airtight as far as the lids.
so what's the deal? where did i go wrong? ..... i've got a shitload of green tomatoes i want to pickle
