It's one thing to let annoying critters go ahead when they stay just within the lines, it's another to see the negative effects on a forum. I think that it would be interesting to see the statistics of forum activity during and after a wave of troll activity. How many people stop visiting a forum, how is the volume of posts affected?

Although I applaud the admin's laissez faire approach in most cases, especially when compared to more strictly controlled forums (like for example Kajak.at or Soulboater.com) this does leave room for those interested only in stirring up trouble... Which IMO does has have a very negative effect on the forum atmosphere.
