... I don't see it being my job/responsibility as an Admin to protect anybody from people or ideas that they may find annoying. I tend to think that in the "free marketplace of ideas" I heard so much about in school, people will be able to weigh the input from all of the various participants in any given conversation and then draw their own conclusions.

(I do find it mildly hilarious how predictably people agree with viewpoints that agree with THEIR viewpoints, and vice versa, but that's a completely different conversation.)

As for THIS conversation, it's actually a topic I've been impelled to think about specifically in the past few days. Here's some of what I said in another thread elsewhere:

"I'm still inclined to strive to provide the least restrictive/intrusive governance possible, and to include as many voices in the conversation as wish to participate, provided they stay within our interpretation of the relatively reasonable boundaries established by the UA. It's easy for me to defend the voices I agree with, but I try very hard to provide voices I disagree with the same latitude I'd want if our roles were reversed.

That sometimes means that I tolerate a lot more than I might if I was following my instincts, but I guess - to me - the most important part of my "provide the least restrictive/intrusive governance possible" credo is the "least" part..."

So, to summarize:

If I think someone is violating the User Agreement, I'll do something about it.

But - and it's a BIG "but" - I'm going to bend over backwards to give the BT user involved the benefit of the doubt, no matter who it is or how personally offensive I might find their stance, and I'm going to try my best to find the least intrusive answer possible.

How that ends up working out shapes the course of the interaction going forward.

Also, of course, once a "situation" develops we tend to consult the other Admins. By the time a full-blown scuffle breaks out, there are usually several of us talking about what might be best. Despite that, though, sometimes shit just gets stupid. The Internet is weird like that, I guess...  ;^)

feedback I'll weigh in on this. I've pretty much completely ignored any BoB TL post for a while now. However, we do have a way GRITS New
