Here is my beliefs based on 40 years in the business and working world.
Free trade is only possible between economic equals. What is being pushed as free trade is simply allowing companies access to cheap labor of developing nations while accessing our consumer markets. Obama and the Democratic party. There is nothing in that process that is to the long term advantage to our economy.
You can't be pro labor and pro immigration, both legal and illegal. We allow more immigrants into this country legally now than any time since the 1929. At the height of the labor moverment, the flow of legal immigration was the lowest simply because they saw that it just flooded the labor market with people who would be willing or forced to work for lower wages. The illegals are even without normal wage protection and legal protections. I've seen it throughout the non union construction world, now have seen it in the IT industry. Digging out that stump? Some illegals doing that for 5 bucks an hour and a coke.
Am I sensative? Hell yes. I not only saw the results of rampant greed and fraud in the financial industry destroy the industry I work, not to mention the millions that have lost homes and livelyhood because of those actions, I personally went through two years at half of my 2006 income. Think you could survive it with anything left? You try it and get back to me. I'm lucky, I was able to make my house payments, but a lot of people in my industry and the local auto industry can't say the same thing. Obama was in the unique position of being able to make fundamental change to the system, instead chose to reward those that put us there at the expense of every working America. Not one person has went to jail for it either.
If you don't think your response was insensative, you may need to reread it.
