I currently live in Denver, and recently found out that my dad has some fairly serious health issues (my parents live 1.5 hours from Asheville...)

I was wondering what advice anyone who does or has lived there might be able to share. I just finished grad school, and realize the job situation in Asheville is pretty bad.

I'm basically just looking to take a one year sabatical, kayak a ton, race the green, help out the parents as need be, and enjoy life. Service sector jobs are prefectly acceptable.

I have a couple college buddies living there now, but does asheville have a prety good scene for 20 somethings? Easy to meet other boaters/climbers/normal people? Any good ways to meet make new friends, club sports, happy hours etc?

I know this is vauge, I just don't have a good feel for the city minus what my two friends have relayed.
