That out of the way, my firstgrader had a playdate with a buddy from school a few weeks ago. His parents are nice enough, I've met his dad a couple times. We had the buddy over today, and my son brought up the fact that his friends dad owned guns. His buddy then said his dad had lots of guns, and didn't my son remember that the dad was cleaning his handgun the time he was over at his house. The conversation went all over the map from there, but the takehome message is that the other dad was apparently cleaning a handgun in the living room of his house when my 6 year old kid was over at his house on a playdate.
Noting my disclosure above, this seems completely fucked up to me. Now, I'm sure there is possibly a logical explanation, like the guy had been out at the range shooting his gun, came home while my kid was over, and just did what he always does...clean his gun in the living room. But even that explanation seems to suggest a bit of a cavalier attitude having guns around someone elses kid to me.
So I'm interested in what gun owners think here. Am I nuts, or am I right to wonder about this guys judgement?
