When he chooses to follow the kid and to get out of the car initially, he is escalating the situation..........

Once he calls in his suspicions, he should be done with it unless it is from afar.

I know that I would be really, really uncomfortable w/ someone following me in their car and then if they get out of their car, it is going to really make the situation more volatile.

Since we weren't there, it is hard to know how the conversation went, but if this guy (Zimmerman) is as vigilant as he seems to be, based on his zeal in packing a weapon and the number of calls he has sent in, then we can probably assume that he didn't approach this kid in a calm, unassuming manner. IF that is the case, and someone came at me like that, then I would certainly feel justified in defending myself and being very suspicious of his motives.

Now, if the guy just got out of his car and didn't engage the kid, (is there any witnesses talking about that?) and was simply getting back in his car after "looking around" for him, then it changes my perceptions, but even getting out of the car going looking for the kid is still very provocative.
