My current favorite alt-energy absurdity - a lot of new windmill farms in the east have been given a condition that they cannot operate at night (to protect birds and bats) when wind is often the strongest. Soooo, not only are they unreliable because of the vagaries of wind, now they're automatically at 0.50 capacity, not including other downtime.
