anon. posters are dragging down a big name (and GREAT) boater to satisfy their own personal ego's . It's not enough to be great, unless there is someone to be greater than, is a thought that comes to mind. I do not think that is a very good thought, but it does occur. Those that hide behind a username, and post anon. are trying to drag down a very good boater to build up themselves.
The good news is, it isn't happening as often these days, but it could be because there are less big name boaters posting. I hope that is not true, but it very well could be.
I try not to hide behind a "username" and I do stand behind what I say. I have made mistakes in the past, and posted things unthinking of the consequences (sorry), but I try not to do that.
This is a semi-public forum where anyone can spout out garbage. It is moderated, so the effect of slanderous material has been limited, but it still crops up every now and then.
I have been greatly disheartened when I have scrolled through this thread. I hope that these people who are posting angry messages are doing so out of ignorance, but I find that hart to believe sometimes. With luck these posters who have tried to bring a great paddler down have learned their lesson and won't try to pick a fight in the future, but I doubt it.
With that being said, EJ is a person, just like any of us out there. He does make mistakes. I don't think we should try to hold him to a higher standard. But EJ is also a role model for many, and he needs to consider his words carefully. Any small mistake, and many people will try to jump on his case and bring him down. I am sorry for those that have posted unthinking responses to a reasonable post. Take care.
