Could these two be confused in diagnosis? Aren't the treatments the same?

I came down with something nasty a few years ago towards the end of a long paddling trip. Giardia tests came up negative and they gave me antibiotics and it finnally cleared up. No docs mentioned this Lepto. I wonder how familiar emergency room docs are with this.
