Rafter dies in Cheat River in W.Va. Monday, May 24, 2004 Associated Press ALBRIGHT, W.Va. — A Pennsylvania man died when his raft capsized during a weekend trip. David Lynn Probst, 47, of Harrisburg, and his adult children, Michael and Jennifer, went rafting on the Cheat River Saturday afternoon, Division of Natural Resources Cpl. Richard McCrobie said today. The raft capsized just below Albright in an area known as Decision Rapids at about 1:15 p.m. and Probst did not resurface, McCrobie said. Probst’s children searched on their own for a while, and then called 911. A kayaker found Probst’s body at about 5 p.m. Saturday about three miles down river in a rough patch of water known as Big Nasty, McCrobie said. The body has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office. Probst was wearing a life vest, but McCrobie said the river was running high and swift |
