You said you hate the fact that "they think they need to repay you"

     Are you sure about that?  Maybe they just WANT to repay you.  Those are entirely different things.  Maybe they enjoy spending their money the same way you enjoy helping out your neighbors.  Why not let them express their generous natures as well without getting angry?  I never understand how people can get offended by a gift.
