...you make a ferry behind a rock immediately above the big center rock that you want to be right of.  There is a finger coming off the back of the top rock that is just an inch or two below the surface of the water.  Im betting this is what you hit.  It will slow you down and spin you into pointing directly at the left side.  You have to drive in about 2' behind the rock to avoid the finger.

I had a buddy run left Saturday.  Scary!  He was entering the rapid when a Shredder dried out / broached, blocking the entire right channel.  He was forced left, went through backwards and luckily came out unscathed.
