At approximately mid-day on Monday, June 02, 2003 a private kayaker drowned on the Arkansas River just below the Miracle Mile section of the Frog Rock / Fractions run. The victim was pulled from the river just upstream of the Harvard Estates bridge. Buena Vista Search and Rescue, Chaffee County Fire, Chaffee County EMS, two Wilderness Aware Rafting guides and the AHRA rangers all responded. CPR was performed throughout the evacuation but the victim was transported by ambulance without having regained consciousness.

It appears that the kayaker was traveling with a private raft. There were no obvious signs of trauma.
