Truly, your awareness of the priority of airway in the ABCs shows you were on the right track.  People can spend a whole career trying to "master" the airway.  Sometimes, things just don't work right in there.  

Thank you for your candid account.  You made a great effort with his resuscitation, and did all we as a community could hope for.
