For many years I ran the top drops of Vortex on river left like most people do. Then I started going to the right of the boulders dividing the river and found it has a deeper channel over there and a good sized eddy that sets you up to run the bottom drops down the right side. I am hoping that tree is nowhere near my favorite line.
