It's been probably eight years since I've run Sec. III, and I want my girlfriend to experience it Sunday since we've now got our tandom canoe fully outfitted. I have questions: I'm aware that even though there are two of us, we are required to have at least one extra boat in our party. How hard would it be to meet people to boat with at the putin right before the narrows (Earl's Ford maybe?). Don't see the need to do the full 12 miles from Sandy Ford. Also, is there anyone on this site who would like to join us: we don't care if you do kayak, canoe, inflatable, etc. Email: kevinconner@charter.net
My other question is: are canoers required to wear helmets?  
I know the water will be low, but the only other option I know of is the Nantahala and that adds time to our trip. We live in Athens but will be staying Saturday night on the western side of Lake Burton near Clarkesville Ga. Thanks, Kevin
