You pays your money (and you takes your chances). (informal)

Something that you say which means each person has to make their own decisions in a situation, because no decision is more correct than any other.

We all make personal choices.   We make them every day.   There are no right or wrongs.   It is what is is.   If we decide to hike, bike, climb, scuba or kayak alone, we do it from a personal choice.   We accept that things may go wrong, but we do it knowing that it was our choice and not someone elses that is reponsible for the consequence.   We hope that people we know and love and even some that don't. can accept these same choices.

That being said, it is well known that there is saftey in numbers.   There are things that experienced people cand do to help when they are in a position to do so.    There are also times when even having the numbers and experience in place can still not mount and effective rescue.   Even so we are still bound by our personal choices.

Taking the time to educate and ask the right questions can let you know if someone else is fully aware of the potential consequences.   Sometimes it may have no affect.   However it happens it's still boils down to personal choices.   The potential is aways there.   Be it a solo event, a high water event, or even if we choose to participate with others.   We choose to go.   We accept the consequences.   There are no guarantees.  Just risks, probabilities.   And the thrill of doing the thing.    Be safe out there.
