All of the fine folks up in Johnstown, Benscreek Canoe Club and everyone else who has been involved in the project thus far have come that much closer to securing the $1.4 million to retro fit the Quemahoning dam to enable whitewater releases.
On top of a $500K grant from the Richard King Mellon Foundation, $75K from the Heinz endowment, $500K from the Pennsylvania DCNR's Community Conservation Partnership, $200K more just came in from the Colcom Foundation.
That is a total of $1,275,000! Damn, that is so close. If the $1.4 million is reached within this year, the project could be completed by late 2009.

Special thanks to those foundations. I don't know what the Colcom Foundation does, but I am going to support them, as well as ramp up my ketchup consumption.
see you on the Stony
