There is nothing like the Futa.  I ran the river everyday for 5 months while working for Spe at Expediciones Chile and loved every minute of it.  I was there from Nov - April.  Late January through Early April for the warmest weather.  Like Matias said 3 main sections, all very big water compared to anything in the SE.  Hands down way way bigger than the gauley.  If you are very comfortable in Insignificant, Pillow rock and Lost Paddle than you will likely enjoy the bridge to bridge section the most.

Inferno Canyon - Full on Class 5 big water in a walled in gorge.  Walking Zeta is easy.

Terminator - Class 4 Big Water if you sneak the terminator, which is a technical sneak.  Walking terminator is long, but easy to do.

Bridge to Bridge - Class 4 Big Water, very continuous, no need to walk anything but a swim will be very very long and exhausting

Bridge to Macall - Adds a little more length to B2B and adds a few more class 4+ to 5 rapids.  If you were very comfortable on b2b add this section.

A guide will make your first few river trips much more enjoyable, but if you are a very solid class 4 to 5 boater, you will probably be ok with very good river beta.  If you can stay for two weeks, Id reccomend it because its a long way to travel and you will love every day on the river.  take your playboat if you are a bad ass, I paddled a river runner my whole time down there and never regretted the decision.

I got fired up just thinking about the Fu while writing this email.  I can wait to go back.

Ben
