You've probally noticed that on your Player the fiberglass edge wears down, which leads to an increasingly smaller paddle over time, eventually needing replacement.  The Dynel edging prevents this wear.  Also the foam core paddles are carbon/kevlar contsructed so they are generally lighter overall, which is always nice, and the foam core is designed to make the paddle feel light/buoyant in the water too.

IMO Werner makes the best paddle hands down, but when your decided between their paddles the bottom line is that its all a matter of preference.  Some people perfer the brute strength of Wener's Primium whitewater line (fiberglass), others want the lightweight high preformance of the foam core.  Ask around and try out you buddies paddles if you can.
