pretty much started to give up boating after that.  Took a lot of wind out of his sails, unfortunately.  I've also seen someone get caught in the hole, fed toward the middle, but stayed in their boat after a roll or two, working back left to escape intact. 

Most interesting of all was an open-boater, separated from his boat at the top, who ran the drop in a sitting position and punched the hole, bobbing up about 15 ft downstream.  Amazing.
