Re: question Anybody ever tear a labrum? Did you live with it or have surgery? If surgery, was it arthroscopic? GRITS New

I tore my labrum and underwent an arthroscopic surgery.

If it is a partial tear and you have only dislocated it once, I'd try physical therapy first.  If it is a complete tear or if you have had multiple dislocations, go on and do the surgery.

My first surgery went horrible and I ended up going through three more surgeries with two other doctors which culminated in a partial shoulder replacement.  I'm back to class IV/V paddling now, but it was a heck of a ride for four years.  Really check out your doctors AND physical therapists first.  If you live close to Knoxville, I highly recommend Dr. Edwin Spencer with Knoxville Orthopedic Clinic.  I credit him with saving my whitewater kayaking habit.
