My Senator Saxby Chambliss forwarded a pro-boating letter to the Forest Service DC office. They forwarded it on to Sumter. He must have had a lot of boaters writing him about the Upper Chattooga. Otherwise, he probably would have sent me a letter like Johnny Isakson, my other Senator:
******************
Dear Mr. Maxwell:
Thank you for contacting me regarding boating restrictions on the Chattooga River. I appreciate hearing from you and appreciate the opportunity to respond.
I understand the frustration of many boaters with the decision by the U.S. Forest Service to uphold the ban on boating on certain portions of the Chattooga River. In response to the outpouring of concern over the U.S. Forest Service's decision, the U.S. Forest Service extended the public comment period regarding this ban until August 15, 2008. I am confident that the Forest Service's decision will be in the best interest of all users of the Chattooga River.
Thank you again for contacting me. Please visit my webpage at http://isakson.senate.gov/ for more information on the issues important to you and to sign up for my e-newsletter by choosing Newsletter Subscription from the topic list.
Sincerely,
Johnny Isakson
