Who guessed Prague was so beautiful? The East Europe of our old text books is cleaner, brighter, and happier - gorgeous old city with lots of character and characters. The ww course is make of tires and chains.. kinda ghetto contsruction yet it's really effective in the 40' wide channel. Constructed for slalom, it's got offset eddies all the way down with waves, holes, rocks, wooden walls, and those tires swishing the water back and forth - kinda like a budget Bejiing. And kayakers from like 26 countries are camping just across the road. It's not really a community yet - just groups speaking lots of languages all trying to talk rules and practice techniques together while meeting at the washroom, internet area, or restaurant between paddling sessions.
I'm camping next to like 16 Russians, a guy from Poland is killing it, local Peter Czonka is the fav, Norwegians and Swedish DROVE here ( and have cool driving lights that angle down for night sessions), and no telling where half of these other folks are from. I always knew kayaking was global but we are really feeling it over on this side of the world - just the various cheers while watching the Olympics at the bar says a lot.
You can find out more about the hole, the comp, and see some photos on the Jacksonkayak dot com.
Internet is good here but open charging outlets are hard to find.
