I have used a carbon bent shaft Player for the past year, which I love. I can use my entire hand to grip the paddle very tightly when cranking out the strokes (while trying to attain for example) while maintaining a straight wrist angle. With a straight shaft, in order to grip tightly with my outer two fingers I either have to push my elbows out or cock my wrist out at an unnatural angle and can't get as much push and pull strength. Haven't had any problems with rolling or bracing. Had been using a Harmony graphite (shows you how old I am) or a Sidewinder wood paddle. As for graphite versus glass, I think the only difference is in having to throw the extra weight around all day (I like being able to easily handle the paddle one-handed while not actually paddling with it), and would go with a bent shaft glass before a graphite straight shaft.
