First of all, it is left and right side rolling, and we refer to them as such dependign upon which hand is the active or leading hand during the roll. The most important thing to realize is why you should do one versus the other, and not just when you you miss the roll that may be your dominant or most trustworthy side. There are many reasons to roll directionally and the most most important is the reason you flip in any given situation in the the first place.
