But we carried some terms over from skiing
Yard sale - obvious
Face plant - derived from doing a skiing pole plant to initiate a turn, in skiing its when you catch an edge, fall and land face first, in kayaking its when you flip and don't tuck or do an ender and don't tuck (anyone remember what an ender is?). A classic example was a couple of weeks ago, a newby (after seeing an old fart do one) did a 15' rock dive off of our favorite cliff, and instead of pushing himself off the edge, he had someone else slide him off and he penciled in, over-rotated in and landed on his face - priceless.
bagel - this may be a NY paddler term. used a a verb, its a roll with a hole. As in - he did a great pop-up, but then he bageled and we had to drag him to shore. Also come to be used as a failure to maintain the high standards of he kayaking community. As in - I had the trip down the gorge all set up, but then it started snowing and the group started bageling out on me one by one.
