Everyone has their opinion.  I suppose it depends on how motivated someone is regarding being their own advocate, and how open one is to the messages the body gives about what needs to happen to be "repaired."

I've had prejudicial opinions and ignored my body, but when it comes to Rolfing my body told me when it was completely right.

I don't know what the whole conversation about pain and Rolfing coinciding is.  I NEVER left in pain, but I did always ARRIVE IN PAIN.  Pain was ruining my life.  So I felt it was a small price to pay to drive an hour one-way to get treatment that worked.  Paying out of pocket was temporary until I convinced the administrative powers that be that it was valid therapy.  My rolfer helped me with that.

I wrote under another post --- but if it hadn't had been for the Center of Excellence at NOC having a Rolfer, I would have never known to seek it out.

I fell down a snow bank with my kayak in 1993 and wanted to finish the clinic I was enrolled in with Richard Fox.  Afterwards, I had to be lifted out of my boat.  My hip girdle was "stuck" and I was in alot of pain.  Two rolfers had just come back from their winter gig.  Aside from one elbow placed into a difficult cross-over of several muscle groups in the glute causing me one lone tear, I have never experienced pain from Rolfing.

As the facia are pulled or pushed or pinched away from the tendons, muscles, and ligaments there is sometimes a weird sensation.  But the relief that comes is immediate and the endomorphines that rush in would leave me feeling completely right with the world.  Often times I would go take a nap for a few hours before driving back home.  NEVER, like in chiropractic, would something feel worse.  ALWAYS, walking and moving afterward HELPED, not re-caused the injury, like chiropractic.

11 years later it took me 5 months of frustration to "remember" how effective Rolfing was and seek it out.  2 years later and 2 more auto accidents, I had learned some Rolfing techniques that I could practice myself and never felt any soreness after being whip-lashed in my car(s.)

Contact me by email if you want to talk.  linn_wendy@earthlink.net  When your arms/hands wake you up at night ---THAT's pain!
