I moved down to Eufaula for a couple of years. I could still make the Coosa in 1:45 but having actually had it literally in my front yard before, and I could not bring myself to day trip it. Once you get south of Montgomery your drive to the river gets pretty long. Day trips are not feasible anymore. At Mobile you are three hours south of the fall line. You might be able to make the Sand Mountain stuff in 5.5 hours. If you get busy with work you will not find yourself boating that much. Your best bet is to do some surf kayaking down on the coast. The Coosa paddle club in central Al has a good bit of boaters. Just understand that that they won't be as urgent to leave the water on Sun since they won't be driving that extra 3 hours that you have.
I did meet a boater from New Orleans once. He hung out on LRC a bunch. He pretty much turned into a pumpkin after 2:00pm on Sundays. He drove a big conversion van. I would not want his gas bill these days.
I am not back up in Tn and my boating life is much better. |
