You don't really need a feathered blade unless you're paddling a lot of flat water.  The wind resistance isn't a factor in whitewater situations.  Blade feathering stemmed from slalom racing where an offset blade would fit more easily through the gate. Invest in a good paddle and don't get more than a 45 degree offset.
