take a wet face in a water-filled environment and have the cup rubbing up against your chin. seems like chafing is possible. that's my guess on why there isn't a chin cup. another angle is that the plastic cup could be a weak point in the strapping. good question though.

what's amazing to me is how our sport started and has evolved with zero face protection with helmets. i can see not wearing a cage or bar when skiing, skateboarding, ect, but considering you're underwater with your face exposed it doesn't make since.
