We have Australian Canoeing which covers 'all disciplines' of paddling, however (and some people would call me wrong here), they seem to mostly focus on flatwater, polo and the other 'racing' disciplines. They do have a 2 day 'rescue' course, and it is signicantly cheaper (about $300). However, having seen what their standard of 'instructor' course is like, I'm not sure that that's the path I want to go down. Call me oldfashioned, but if you swim 3 times in your instructor's exam, I don't think you should pass :-)
