Being in good enough shape to carry a boat up a hill has ZERO to do with whether one should enjoy the Gauley River. There is an easier take-out downstream just one hour but the U-haul provides a valuable service while fundraising - especially for people who raft, OC-1, K-2, or just paddle a creek boat on weekends.
One might also argue that anyone who's running up the hill didn't play hard enough. Perhaps they paddled some long boat that makes the flatwater go quickly and just went straight downstream instead of giving everything they had to the river. . .
We've all got vices, we've all got strengths. Lots of good hikers can't kayak and lots of good kayakers can barely hike. To each his own.
Nice troll! See you at ASCI? C
