We all agree less night time generation and more 100% as opposed to 60%.
As for the one thing left in contension, scheduled releases, if they just give 2 days of notice, with any reliability, isn't that good enough? I mean, that's way more certainty than any class 5 run in the entire east coast, and certainly more than any natural run of any size.
Green race is a guarantee release, and the problem is that its so crowded it IS dangerous. And the biggest part of that problem is that not only are all the regulars there who are normally there anyway, but the extra bulk of paddlers who are there are likely to be newer boaters who are STEPPING UP to the green who can only go on a months in advance release. That is the worst time for them to go. God, last green race i saw more retarded/scary/sketchy lines than I have seen on all the other 100+ runs I have ever been on. All lumped into one sketchy day. Ethically, I don't see anything wrong with asking for scheduled releases. There are lots of them on runs like Russell Fork, Moose, Yough, etc. But I think those kind of volumes on the Green WILL cause strain on the whole system with respect to access, local PR, and injuries/incidents. The scheduled release will definitely be skipped by me and my crew I am pretty sure.
I don't think there is any reason why the locals should be more put out by having to deal with traffic control at Gorilla and other crucial spots. Its a class 5+ rapid. Maybe getting out and being safer is "inconvenient" just like renting a key and picking it up and dropping it off is "inconvenient".
just my thoughts, but overall, I think shooting for more 100% and less night time releases will lift a big burden and this perifery will die down once the situation improves. Finally, we are in the biggest drought of the day. Don't expect good flows on the Green till things change. It may be man controlled but its still destined by nature.
