1. Of course Woody gets mad props .. and for dealing with the access issue / key etc. LL's efforts have made them a true 'keeper of the Green'
2. The sticker system / 5$ system was good for all, just not used regularly. So many cars in the lot without stickers and no money in the box ... everyone guilty, not just out of towners.
3. The current system (pre-key rental) allows the locals who run 2x a day all year to pay the same as I do right before Green Race for my 5 runs a year. Price is still fine, access is worth it, but the localist attitude adds salt to the wound.
4. I find myself calling 'this is BS' on all the whining about how threatened it is and how I'm supposed to donate more $ because it isn't breaking even. I feel like I'm paying far more per run already and so the local paddlers who benefit most must be really slacking off and unworthy of my support. "Your river, your parking, you deal with it''.
So, if I'm feeling it who isn't? Now with locals not wanting scheduled releases and not wanting AW invovled despite their regular trips to Cheoah . . . how can anyone NOT feel a sense of detatchment from this river's cause?
Such a shame, but perhaps realizing 'none of this matters, it's just a river' is the best way to think of it.
1. who cares how much anyone else runs it? 2. who cares if they get a better deal as long as mine seems acceptible? 3. Will NOT helping work out a better situation help or hurt my access?
There is more creativity coming from those less invovled in the politics .. so keep the ideas coming whether you are from NC or NO. The river belongs to no one but getting more runs is common ground.
Hats off to those who came out with the 'rental key' policy
